How Product Syncing from Your Integration Works

Product Updates Synced from Your Integration

When you chanage a product in a connected store, billing system, or accounting system, Kintsugi decides whether to carry that change across, and whether the product needs to be classified again. You control that behavior with one setting, and anything you have edited by hand in Kintsugi is protected either way.

Easy Navigation:

Log in to Kintsugi > Click Configurations > Go to Settings > Enable or Disable Allow Product Updates From Source

Quick Summary

  • Product changes flow one way, from your connected source into Kintsugi.

  • The setting "Allow Product Updates From Source" controls whether source changes update products that already exist in Kintsugi, and it is on by default.

    • Enabling this feature means Kintsugi keeps your products in sync with changes made at your data source.

    • Disable this if you want to freeze product details at their initial synced values. Meaning, any further changes made at your data source will not be synced nor reflected in Kintsugi.

  • Turning this feature on or off does not affect any of the products you edit or approve inside Kintsugi. Every edit you make inside Kintsugi is protected and doesn't accepting source updates.

  • Turning the setting off does not stop Kintsugi from adding products it has never seen before.

  • Regardless of whether this feature is turned on or off, Kintsugi never sends information (categories, subcategories, or classifications) back to your source system.

What This Setting Controls

The setting applies to your whole organization and to every connection that sends product data. There is no per-field option and no per-connection option.

Manual Edits Always Win

The moment you edit a product in Kintsugi, that product is marked as yours. Later updates from the source are skipped for that product.

Two details matter here:

  • Protection covers the whole product, not the single field you changed. If you correct a product name in Kintsugi, the description and the category stop accepting source updates too.

  • Protection is automatic. There is nothing to turn on, and it holds even while Allow Product Updates From Source is on.

Approving a product classification counts as a manual action, so an approved product keeps its category and subcategory even when the source record changes.

When a Product is Classified Again

Kintsugi classifies products so it can apply the right tax treatment. A source update can send a product back through classification, but only in one situation.

  • Approved products keep their classification. If you have approved the category and subcategory, a change at the source does not disturb it.

  • Products that are not approved yet can be classified again. This happens when the source change touches a detail that affects classification, such as the product name, the description, or the source category.

  • A change with no effect does nothing. If the incoming data matches what Kintsugi already has, nothing is reclassified and nothing is logged as a change.

What Kintsugi Handles and What You Handle

Kintsugi handles:

  • Applying source product changes according to your setting

  • Skipping any product you have edited or approved

  • Deciding when a change is material enough to re-run classification

  • Creating products it discovers at the source for the first time

  • Recording product changes internally, including which source or user made them

You handle:

  • Choosing whether source updates may change existing products

  • Keeping product data accurate in your source system

  • Reviewing and approving classifications in Kintsugi

  • Correcting a product in Kintsugi when the source data is wrong

FAQs

Q: Is this setting on or off for my account?

A: It is on for every organization, new and existing, unless someone in your organization has turned it off.

Q: Can a source update overwrite a product I fixed in Kintsugi?

A: No. Once you edit or approve a product in Kintsugi, source updates skip it permanently.

Q: I turned the setting off, so why are new products still appearing?

A: That is expected. The setting protects products that already exist. Kintsugi still adds products it finds for the first time.

Q: Does Kintsugi push my product categories back to my store?

A: No. Product syncing runs one way, into Kintsugi.

Q: Can I see who changed a product and when?

A: Not in the app in this release. Kintsugi keeps that record internally, and support can review it for you.

Q: Which of my connections does this apply to?

A: Every connection that sends product data to Kintsugi. The setting is not specific to any one platform.
