Updated 5 months ago

Overview

Invalid addresses in Kintsugi occur when a transaction’s address data is incomplete, unverified, or cannot be matched with a valid location. The Invalid Address Cleanup feature allows you to review, verify, and update these records directly from your dashboard.

Steps to Update Invalid Addresses

  1. Log in to the Kintsugi app
Sign in to your Kintsugi account and go to your Dashboard.

  4. Review the Current and Suggested Addresses
    Each transaction includes:

    • Current Address: The original data from the transaction.

    • Suggested Address: A recommended correction generated by Kintsugi’s AI based on available state, postal code, and country data.

Compare both to confirm that the suggested address accurately reflects the correct state, city, and ZIP code.

Updating Invalid Addresses

You can update your invalid address records in two ways:

  • Update Individually (Recommended)
For best accuracy, use the Update button next to each record.
This allows you to validate and apply the correction on a case-by-case basis, ensuring that each transaction reflects the correct address before it’s updated in the system.

  • Bulk Update
Once you’ve reviewed all records on the page and confirmed that the suggested addresses are accurate, you can click the (green) Update button at the top of the page to update all valid suggestions at once.

This is ideal for larger batches where the suggested addresses are consistently accurate.

Tip: The individual Update option gives you the highest control over address accuracy, while the bulk update helps streamline large-scale cleanup once you’ve verified consistency.

Handling “No Suggestions Found”

If Kintsugi cannot generate a suggested address, the record will show “No Suggestions Found” and the Update button will be unavailable.

This typically happens when:

  • The address is outside the United States (e.g., a Canadian address).

  • The ZIP or postal code is missing or invalid.

For such cases:

  1. Click View Transaction to review the full details.

  2. Manually correct the address if possible. Click the Edit button and fill in the form.

  3. Save the update to remove it from the invalid list.

Address Enrichment Behavior

Kintsugi’s AI automatically enriches U.S. addresses when possible:

  • If only the state is provided, the system uses predefined mappings to fill in the city, county, and postal code.

  • If only a valid postal code is provided, it enriches the address with state, city, and country data.

  • If the postal code is invalid or missing, the transaction remains listed as invalid.

Best Practice

To maintain data precision and compliance:

  • Use the individual Update button when verifying address accuracy.

  • Switch to Bulk Update only after confirming all suggested corrections are reliable.

  • Set your display to 100 transactions per page to speed up review.

By using the individual Update option as your go-to method, you maintain stronger control over address data integrity—ensuring Kintsugi applies accurate location information for precise tax rate calculations.
