Understanding Indonesia VAT Jurisdictions

Updated 2 months ago

Indonesia operates a single national VAT jurisdiction. Unlike the United States, there are no state-level or provincial VAT systems in Indonesia. All VAT obligations are managed at the federal level through the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT).

Address Jurisdiction

When entering addresses in Kintsugi, the full Indonesian address format is used for compliance records and tax calculations. The standard format includes:

  • Street name and number

  • RT/RW (optional neighborhood identifier)

  • Kelurahan/Desa (village)

  • Kecamatan (subdistrict)

  • City/Regency

  • Province

  • Postal code

  • Country

Example address:

Jl. Jenderal Sudirman No. 12, Kel. Karet, Kec. Setiabudi, Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta 12930, Indonesia

Special Economic Zones

Indonesia has designated Free Trade Zones (FTZ) and Special Economic Zones (KEK/Bonded Zones) in certain areas. These zones may have different VAT treatment for physical goods. For digital goods and SaaS services, however, these zone distinctions are out of scope and do not affect VAT calculations in Kintsugi.

Regional Tax Rates

There are no separate regional or local VAT rates in Indonesia. The standard national PPN rate applies uniformly across all provinces and cities.
