Enabling Third-Party Access in Rhode Island

How to add third-party access from your Rhode Island Tax Portal account.

This help article walks you through the steps to grant third-party access to your Rhode Island sales tax account. Providing these permissions allows Kintsugi to retrieve your registration details and complete the registration import setup within the app.


Step 1: Access your account at Rhode Island: Division of Taxation

  1. Go to Rhode Island: Division of Taxation.

  2. Enter your username and password and click “Sign In.”

Step 2: Once logged in, hover over the “Profile Information” tab and click “Manage Authorized Users.”

Step 3: On the “Manage Authorized Users” page, click the “Add New Authorized User” button

Step 4: For “User ID” enter “KintsugiRI” and click “Next.”

Step 5: Fill the “User Details” Page

  1. Check the box to the left of the “Taxpayer Name.”

  2. For “Start Date,” enter January 1st, 20XX, of the year we will begin filing for you.

  3. Click “Taxpayer Functions.”


Step 6: Set Taxpayer Function Authorization

  1. Under “Taxpayer Functions,” check the box next to the following functions:

    1. Make a Bill Payment

    2. Service Request - Update Tax Account Address

  1.  Click “OK.” 

  2. You will receive a pop-up that reads: “Please select Save on the User Detail page in order to submit the changes.”

  3. Click “Ok” again.


Step 7: Click the “Tax Type Authorizations” button.


Step 8: Set “Tax Type Authorizations”

  1. On the “Tax Type Authorization” page, select the box next to “SALES / FILING.”

  2. For the start date, enter January 1st, 20XX, of the year we will begin filing for you.

  3. Click the “Tax Type Functions” button.

Step 9: Assign Tax Type Functions

  1. Check the box next to the following functions:

    1. File Returns

    2. Make Payments

  2. Click the “Ok” button.

Step 10: You will be redirected to the “User Details” page; click the “Save” button in the bottom-right corner.


Step 11: On the “Confirmation” page, confirm all four functions listed above have been assigned and click the “Confirm” button.


Step 12: Log out of your account.
