When you add a client to your portfolio, Kintsugi creates a complete organization for that business and links it to your firm. This article walks through the steps and the follow-up that trips up most partners: creating a client does not give anyone access to it.
The full setup flow is: Kintsugi creates your portfolio, Kintsugi invites your firm to it, you add your clients, then you grant access and invite users. This article covers the third step.
You need the Owner or Admin role in your portfolio
Have the client's legal business name ready
Know which of your team members will own this client
Decide who at the client, if anyone, needs to sign in to their own organization
Sign in at partner.trykintsugi.com.
Go to the Portfolio tab.
click New Client in the upper right.
Complete the required fields:
Enter the Client's organization name
Select the organization type
Choose the Billing mode.
Partner Managed: You manage billing and payments on behalf of your client. The client will not receive any invoices directly from Kintsugi. This option is set as default.
Client Managed: Your client manages their own billing and payments. They will receive invoices directly from Kintsugi.
Click Create.
Open the new client with View Client and complete its business details, address, and bank details. These belong to the client, not to your firm, because Kintsugi files and remits on that client's behalf.
Grant access to the Kintsugi team members who will work on this client, and assign the one who owns it. See Invite Team Members and Assign Them to Clients in Kintsugi Portfolio.
If someone at the client or on your team needs to sign in directly to this organization, for example to connect a Shopify store, invite them as a user of that organization.
Expected result: The client appears in your Portfolio list. Its billing mode matches your portfolio's billing mode. Its overview metrics, Monitoring, Registrations, and Filings pages are empty until you connect a data source or upload transactions.
Creating a client does not give anyone access to it, including you. Kintsugi applies the lowest level of access by default, so access is always granted deliberately. If a colleague says the new client is missing, they have not been granted access yet.
Creating a client also does not make anyone a user of that organization. Some integrations, such as Shopify, require the signed-in person to be a user of the organization before the store can connect. Invite that person first.
Business details, address, and bank details are per client. You are filing that client's returns, not your firm's.
Bank details are required before Kintsugi can create a registration for a live organization.
Exposure and liability figures will not appear until the client's first data import finishes.
If you create clients through the Partner API instead, see Automate Your Portfolio with the Kintsugi Partner API. The API can create up to 20 clients in one batch.
