Kintsugi supports a read-only integration with Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES). This integration syncs your transaction data into Kintsugi so your sales tax calculations, reporting, and compliance stay accurate, without changing anything in your IES account.
In a read-only integration, data flows one way. Kintsugi imports your invoices, credit memos, customers, and products from IES. Kintsugi does not write tax back to your IES invoices and does not modify any of your records.
This guide walks you through connecting your IES account to Kintsugi. Before you start, please make sure your onboarding tasks in Kintsugi are completed to ensure a smooth setup.
Note: Intuit Enterprise Suite is currently available in the United States only. If you use QuickBooks Online rather than IES, follow the QuickBooks Read-Only Integration Guide instead.
Make sure you have the following ready:
Admin access to your IES account. The connection must be authorized by a user with admin permissions. If the person who authorizes the connection later loses admin access, the connection will break and another admin will need to reconnect it.
The entity you want to connect. IES accounts can contain multiple legal entities. Each entity connects to Kintsugi separately. See Connecting Multiple Entities section below.
Open Intuit Enterprise Suite in a separate browser tab and log in as an admin user. Staying logged in makes the authorization step smoother.
Log in to your Kintsugi account.
a. If you already have an account, log in using your username and password.
b. If you do not have an account, follow the prompts on the screen to sign up and create a new account. Once logged in, you will be able to access your Kintsugi Dashboard.
From the menu, go to the Data Sources section.
Click Browse Integration.
Look for Intuit Enterprise Suite card and click Connect.
A Set Default Country pop-up will appear.
Select your country from the dropdown list and click Save. Kintsugi operates on accrual-based accounting. Only finalized invoices with dates are included in your tax reports, so use estimates in IES for any tentative transactions you do not want counted.
The connection card will appear showing the status Unauthorized.
Click Authorize.
Intuit will ask you to select your company. Use the search field to find the entity you want to connect, then click Next. If your IES account contains more than one entity, select only the entity you want to connect right now. You will repeat this process for each additional entity.
IMPORTANT:
If your IES account contains more than one entity, select only the entity you want to connect right now. You will repeat this process for each additional entity.
If you also have QuickBooks Online companies under the same Intuit login, they appear in the same list. Make sure you select the IES entity.
Review the access summary and click Connect to approve the connection.
Verify the connection. Once IES is successfully connected to Kintsugi, the Unauthorized label will be replaced with Connected.
After connecting, Kintsugi begins importing your historical data. The initial import can take some time depending on how many transactions your entity holds. You can check progress from the Data Sources tab.
Once the initial import finishes, new and updated records flow into Kintsugi automatically. You do not need to trigger syncs manually.
Data | What Kintsugi Uses It For |
|---|---|
Invoices | Core transaction records used for tax calculation, nexus tracking, and filings |
Credit memos | Refunds and credits applied against your sales for tax adjustment |
Customers | Customer records used for exemptions and tax jurisdiction |
Products and services | Product classification used to determine taxability |
Addresses | Billing and shipping addresses used to determine tax jurisdiction |
Payments are used behind the scenes to link credit memos back to their original invoices. They are not imported as separate transactions.
Kintsugi only imports customers and products that appear on your transactions. Inactive customers or products that are not on any transaction will not show up in Kintsugi.
IES lets you manage several legal entities under one login. Kintsugi treats each entity as its own connection.
To connect more than one entity:
Complete Step 2 above for your first entity.
Return to Data Sources, find the Intuit Enterprise Suite card, and connect a new Intuit Enterprise Suite entity by clicking “Connect Another.”
When Intuit asks you to select your company, choose the next entity.
Each entity gets its own connection and its own authorization, and its data stays separate inside Kintsugi. Sales tax compliance (nexus, registrations, and filings) is tracked per entity.
Q: Why does the Intuit authorization screen mention QuickBooks Online?
A: Intuit Enterprise Suite is built on the same underlying platform as QuickBooks Online, so Intuit's own consent screen uses QuickBooks Online wording. Your IES data is what gets connected, and you can confirm you selected the right entity on the company selection screen just before it.
Q: Will Kintsugi change anything in my IES account?
A: No. This is a read-only integration. Kintsugi imports your data for tax calculation, reporting, and filing, and does not write to or modify your IES records.
Q: Do I need a separate Kintsugi account for each entity?
A: No. One Kintsugi organization can hold multiple IES entity connections. Connect each entity separately using the steps above.
Q: How should I set up tax-exempt customers?
A: Create customer exemptions in Kintsugi rather than marking the customer as exempt in IES. Kintsugi's exemption management captures the jurisdiction, start date, end date, and status, which determine whether the exemption applies. Refer to exemptions management articles for complete guide.
Q: Does Kintsugi work with QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop?
A: No. Kintsugi supports Intuit Enterprise Suite and QuickBooks Online only.
Q: My connection shows as disconnected or unauthorized. What do I do?
A: Go to Data Sources, find the Intuit Enterprise Suite connection, and reauthorize it. Make sure you are logging in as an admin user on your IES account. The most common cause is an expired or revoked authorization, or the original admin losing access.
This read-only integration supports data sync and reporting only. To have Kintsugi calculate sales tax and write it back to your IES invoices, check out the IES (Intuit Enterprise Suite) Tax Engine Integration Guide.
