How do I determine if I have sales tax nexus in a state?

To quickly see if your business has nexus in a state, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the Kintsugi app and check the dashboard.
   The Exposure Map gives you an overview of your sales tax obligations. States marked as 'Exposed' mean that you have nexus in those states and should register and start collecting sales tax.

   

2. Check why you have a nexus.
   2.1 Click the Monitoring tab (formerly known as the "Nexus" tab) in your dashboard.

   

   2.2 There, you'll see the specific reason for your exposure, such as Economic, Physical, or Collected Tax Nexus.

   

   Note: If you've already collected tax without being registered, you must either refund it to your customers or remit it to the state.

3. Track economic nexus progress.
   Go to the Not Exposed tab. Here you'll find a progress wheel showing how close you are to reaching the economic nexus threshold in each state.

This helps you proactively manage your sales tax responsibilities.
