Pull your Kintsugi tax data straight into Google Sheets, choose exactly the fields you want, and keep it refreshed on a schedule you set. Setup takes about five minutes.
Kintsugi Sheets is a Google Workspace add-on that connects your Kintsugi organization to a Google Sheets spreadsheet. Instead of exporting a CSV every time you need numbers, you build the view once and let it refresh itself.
It is built for the way finance teams actually work: in a spreadsheet, alongside data from everywhere else.
Feature | What it gives you |
|---|---|
Data Preview | See your data before you import it, and pick only the objects, fields, and rows you need |
Drilldown | Expand a record into its related detail, such as opening transactions into transaction items or tax items |
Automatic Refreshes | Refresh daily, weekly, or monthly at a time you choose |
Flashbacks | Save a point-in-time snapshot on every refresh, so you keep a history you can audit against |
Multiple organizations | Connect more than one Kintsugi organization from a single spreadsheet, useful for partners and accounting firms |
Kintsugi Sheets is available through the Google Workspace Marketplace.
Check these three things first. They save the most common setup delay.
Kintsugi Sheets is included at no extra cost for paid Kintsugi organizations. The connection uses an API key, and your API key stays locked until your organization is on a Premium plan and onboarding is complete. If you are not there yet, see Unlocking Your API Key for what to finish, or spin up a test organization to try it out first.
API keys are created at the organization level. If you do not see the API key screen, ask whoever administers your Kintsugi organization to generate one for you.
For the smoothest install, use a Chrome profile with only one Google account signed in. Multiple signed-in accounts is the most frequent cause of an install that appears to succeed but does not show up in Sheets.
What the add-on can access. Like most Google Workspace add-ons, Kintsugi Sheets asks for permission to view, create, edit, and delete your Google Sheets spreadsheets, to connect to an external service, and to run scheduled refreshes while you are away. Your Kintsugi credentials are encrypted, and your source data is not stored by the add-on. If your IT or security team needs more detail, the Marketplace listing shows the full permission set before you install.
You will need two values from Kintsugi. Grab both now so you are not switching tabs mid-setup.
Log in to Kintsugi.
Click Configuration from the left-side navigation menu.
Select API Keys section.
Click New to create a new API key.
Select the expiration date for your API (one month, six months, one year or never).
Choose your expiration deliberately. If you plan to use scheduled refreshes, a key that expires will silently stop them. Either pick a long expiration and set yourself a renewal reminder, or choose an expiration that matches your organization's key rotation policy.
Click, the Save button to proceed.
A new API will be generated and you should copy the key immediately. Kintsugi shows it once and cannot show it again.
Your Organization ID identifies which Kintsugi organization the add-on should pull from. It is shown in your Kintsugi organization settings and begins with orgn_.
If you manage more than one organization, note the ID for each one. You will need them later.
After logging in to Kintsugi, locate the Organization tab in the left navigation menu, located just below your profile.
A modal will appear where you can either search or scroll to find your organization. Once located, you can copy its organization ID.
Open a Google Sheets spreadsheet, new or existing.
Go to Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons. The Google Workspace Marketplace opens in a window.
Search for Kintsugi Sheets and select it from the results.
Click Install and approve the permissions when Google prompts you.
Go back to Extensions. Kintsugi Sheets now appears in the menu. Select Launch app to open the add-on.
The add-on opens as a side panel on the right of your spreadsheet.
The Kintsugi side panel after a successful install.
In the side panel, complete the required fields.
Paste your API key.
Paste your Organization ID.
Click Authorize to proceed.
Follow the on-screen prompts to finish.
The connect screen. Your credentials are encrypted, and your source data is not stored by the add-on.
Once connected, you go straight to the Data Preview screen.
The Data Preview screen is where you decide exactly what lands in your spreadsheet. Nothing imports until you say so, so it is safe to explore.
Data Preview. Pick your object on the right, refine with fields and filters, then import.
Use the Object dropdown to choose what you want to pull, such as Customers or Transactions. Each object is a different set of records from your Kintsugi organization.
Drilldown expands a record into its related detail. For example, drilling into Transactions gives you access to transaction items or tax items, so you can work at line-item level instead of order level.
Drilldown options available on the Transactions object.
Click Add or Modify Fields to open the field list. Search for a field, tick the ones you want, and they appear as columns in the preview. Untick anything you do not need to keep the sheet fast and readable.
Adding and removing fields. Selected fields become your columns.
Use Filter to narrow to the records you care about, such as a date range or a status. Use the row limit control to cap how many rows come across.
When the preview looks right, click Import. Kintsugi Sheets writes the object, fields, and filtered rows you selected into your sheet, up to the row limit you set. It imports what you chose, not your entire Kintsugi account, so if something is missing, check your filters and row limit first.
You can refresh whenever you like, or set it and forget it.
Open the side panel and click Pull Latest Data to refresh immediately.
Sheet Configuration, showing the source, the fields in use, and any schedules already running.
In the side panel, click Create Schedule.
Choose your Refresh frequency: daily, weekly, or monthly.
Set the Day and time.
Optionally open Advanced Options to set your Refresh Mode, which controls whether each refresh replaces the existing rows or adds to them.
Click Schedule.
Scheduling an automatic refresh, with Refresh Mode and Flashbacks under Advanced Options.
Turn on Flashbacks when creating your schedule and Kintsugi Sheets creates a new sheet with every refresh, preserving a snapshot of your data as it stood at that moment.
This is useful when you need to show what the numbers looked like at filing time, compare exposure month over month, or hand an auditor a clean point-in-time record.
Flashbacks adds a sheet per refresh, so a daily schedule builds up quickly. Weekly or monthly is usually the right cadence for a long-running history.
If you manage sales tax for more than one entity, such as a fractional CFO, bookkeeper, or accounting firm, you can connect more than one Kintsugi organization and manage those connections from the same place.
Each connection uses its own API key and Organization ID, so set up one at a time using the steps above. Naming your API keys after the client or entity makes them far easier to manage later.
What you are seeing | What to try |
|---|---|
Kintsugi Sheets does not appear under Extensions after installing | Refresh the spreadsheet tab. If it is still missing, check that only one Google account is signed in to your Chrome profile, then reinstall. |
You cannot find your API key in Kintsugi, or the screen is locked | Your API key unlocks once your organization is on a Premium plan and onboarding is complete. See Unlocking Your API Key. |
The connection is rejected | Confirm you pasted the full API key with no trailing spaces, and that the Organization ID matches the organization the key was created in. A key from one organization will not work with another organization's ID. |
A scheduled refresh has stopped running | Check whether the API key has expired. Create a new key, then reconnect. Also confirm the spreadsheet has not been moved to trash or had its sharing changed. |
Fewer rows imported than you expected | Check your filters and the row limit on the Data Preview screen. Import respects both. |
Your spreadsheet is slow after importing | Reduce the number of selected fields, tighten your filters, or lower the row limit. If you use Flashbacks, delete older snapshot sheets you no longer need. |
Q: Does Kintsugi Sheets cost extra?
A: No. It is included at no additional cost for paid Kintsugi organizations.
Q: Can I use it with Microsoft Excel?
A: Not currently. Kintsugi Sheets is a Google Workspace add-on and works with Google Sheets. If you need the data in Excel, import into Google Sheets and then download the sheet as an .xlsx file.
Q: Does it write anything back to Kintsugi?
A: No. The connection is read-only. Nothing you do in your spreadsheet changes your Kintsugi data.
Q: Is my data safe?
A: Your Kintsugi credentials are encrypted and your source data is not stored by the add-on. Treat your API key like a password: do not paste it into shared documents or chats, and revoke it in Kintsugi if you think it has been exposed.
Q: What happens when my API key expires?
A: Manual and scheduled refreshes stop working. Create a new key in Kintsugi and reconnect the add-on to resume.
Q: Can more than one person on my team use the same connected sheet?
A: Share the spreadsheet as you would any other Google Sheet. Anyone with access sees the imported data. Setting up or changing the connection requires the add-on and a valid API key.
Still stuck after trying the troubleshooting steps above? Start a chat from the bottom right of your Kintsugi screen and include your Organization ID and a screenshot of what you are seeing. That gets you to an answer faster.
