Overview
To make sure your sales-tax payments are processed on time via your Kintsugi account, you must provide valid bank account information in your account settings. Kintsugi supports both U.S. and international bank accounts for handling your tax remittances. This guide explains:
what types of accounts are required
which regions are supported
key details on payment methods
Supported Payment Methods
Kintsugi accepts the following payment methods for remitting taxes:
US-based checking account that supports ACH debit (for US filings)
Wire transfer (for US filings from International Customers without a US bank account)
Canada Bank Account (for Canada GST/HST and provincial filings)
European Bank Account (for EU filings)
Australian Bank Account (for Australian GST compliance and remittance)
New Zealand Bank Account (for NZ GST compliance and filings)
Mexican Bank Account (for VAT compliance and filings in Mexico)
Bank Account Requirements
You'll need a valid bank account in place to process remittances and manage your tax payments through Kintsugi. Below are the supporting details by region:
US Filings
Required account type: A US-based checking account that supports ACH debit.
Savings accounts are generally not recommended, as some states may not accept them for tax payments.
The bank account holder’s name must match the business or authorized filer on your tax return.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Many U.S. jurisdictions require ACH debit or credit payments, and bank accounts must be in the U.S. (foreign-based accounts often are not accepted). In this case, Kintsugi offers a wire transfer option that allows non-US customers to pay their sales tax liabilities through us. Refer to this help article for more information: Tax Remittance via Wire for Non-US Customers
Non-US Filings
a. Canada Filings
Required account type: Canadian bank account for GST/HST and provincial filings.
Ensure your bank account supports government remittances through pre-authorized debit.
b. EU Filings
Required account type: an EU-based bank account in the name of the corresponding EU entity is accepted and supported.
Ensure your bank account supports government remittances payments (via debit or equivalent electronic funds transfer).
You do NOT need a US entity or US bank account to use the Kintsugi for EU tax compliance.
c. Australian GST Compliance
Required account type: Australian-based bank account in the same name of the Australian entity.
Ensure your bank account supports government remittances (using pre-authorized debit or equivalent).
You do NOT need a US entity or US bank account to use the Kintsugi for AUS GST compliance.
d. New Zealand Filings
Required account type: New Zealand-based bank account that matches your NZ entity
Must support GST remittances through pre-authorized debit or electronic funds transfer
You do NOT need a US entity or US bank account to use the Kintsugi for NZ GST compliance.
e. Mexico Filings
Required account type: Mexico-based bank account that matches your local entity (RFC)
Must support VAT remittances via direct debit or electronic transfer through SAT-approved methods
You do NOT need a US entity or US bank account to use the Kintsugi for Mexico VAT compliance and filings.
Using the Same Account for Multiple US Jurisdictions
You can use one bank account for all your US filings, as long as it meets the specific requirements for each state or jurisdiction.
Be aware that some jurisdictions (like Florida and North Carolina) might have earlier due dates, which could affect when funds are withdrawn.
Keeping Banking Information Updated
Kintsugi uses the bank account details saved in your Kintsugi account settings for all payments.
Kintsugi does not use information from state or provincial tax portals.
If your bank account changes (e.g., account number, routing number, bank name, entity name), you must update your details in Kintsugi promptly to avoid failed payments.
