Bank Account Requirements & Payment Method

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

To ensure your sales tax payments are processed on time, you’ll need to provide valid bank account information in your Kintsugi account settings. This guide covers account type requirements, supported regions, and payment method details.

US Filings

Required account type: A US-based checking account that supports ACH debit.

  • Savings accounts are generally not recommended, as some states may not accept them for tax payments.

  • The bank account holder’s name must match the business or authorized filer on your tax return.

Canadian Filings

Required account type: Canadian bank account for GST/HST and provincial filings.

  • Ensure your bank account supports government remittances through pre-authorized debit.

Using the Same Account for Multiple Jurisdictions

  • You can use one bank account for all your filings, as long as it meets the specific requirements for each state or province.

  • Be aware that some jurisdictions (like Florida and North Carolina) might have earlier due dates, which could affect when funds are withdrawn.

Keeping Banking Information Updated

  • Kintsugi uses the bank account details saved in your Kintsugi account settings for all payments. Kintsugi does not use information from state or provincial tax portals.

  • If your bank account changes, update your details in Kintsugi promptly to avoid failed payments.
