BigCommerce Sync: What You Need to Know

Understanding sync timing, orders, and tax-exempt settings

Updated this week

When you use BigCommerce with Kintsugi, your customer and order information syncs automatically. This article explains how syncing works, especially concerning timing, orders, and tax exemptions, so you can avoid any disruptions during sales.

Customer Sync Timing

New customer records from BigCommerce appear in Kintsugi every 15 minutes. This means you might see a small delay before a new customer shows up in Kintsugi.

💡Important: This sync delay does not prevent you from creating or completing orders in BigCommerce.

Impact on Orders and Tax

  • No delay for taxes: Even if the customer hasn’t synced into Kintsugi yet, tax calculations are always done in real-time during checkout.

  • No need to pause sales: You can safely proceed with order creation in BigCommerce without waiting for the sync.

  • If a customer is tax-exempt and properly configured in BigCommerce, Kintsugi will apply the correct tax rules.

Setting Up Tax-Exempt Customers

To mark a customer as exempt in BigCommerce, enter “Exempt” in the Tax Exempt Code field on their customer’s profile.

Once set, Kintsugi will recognize the exemption when calculating taxes.

💡 Tip: If you don't immediately see a new customer in Kintsugi, proceed with your sale in BigCommerce. The sync delay won't affect tax accuracy or your ability to create orders.
