How to Disregard a Nexus Recommendation

Learn how to stop monitoring a jurisdiction and understand the risks involved.

Updated this week

This guide explains how to disregard a Nexus recommendation. Disregarding a jurisdiction means you are choosing to permanently stop monitoring your tax exposure there. This will remove the jurisdiction from your active alerts and tracking.

Disregarding a Nexus Recommendation

You can choose to disregard a Nexus recommendation directly from the Monitoring page. This option is available in the Exposed tab, where all your active Nexus exposures are listed.

To disregard a jurisdiction:

  1. Go to the Monitoring page.

  2. Navigate to the Exposed tab.

  3. Hover over the jurisdiction you want to disregard.

  4. Click the kebab (three-dots) menu that appears.

  5. Select Disregard.

  6. A confirmation modal will pop-up. Please review the message before proceeding:
“Are you sure you want to disregard this jurisdiction? Once disregarded, it will be moved to the Disregarded tab. You will not receive further alerts or tracking for this jurisdiction. If you need to restore monitoring, please contact support.”

  7. Click Disregard to confirm the action.

Once disregarded:

  • The jurisdiction moves to the Disregarded tab.

  • You will no longer receive alerts or monitoring updates for that jurisdiction.

  • The jurisdiction will be excluded from your exposure tracking and the "Registrations to Finish" count.

  • The Register button will no longer be available for that jurisdiction.

  • To resume monitoring or re-register, you’ll need to contact Support.

Understanding the Risks of Disregarding a Nexus

Disregarding a Nexus means you are choosing to stop monitoring that jurisdiction’s tax exposure. While this may help declutter your dashboard, it comes with important risks:

  • You will miss future alerts: You will not be notified if your business meets new Nexus thresholds (for example, if economic or physical presence changes).

  • Compliance exposure: If you disregard a jurisdiction where you already have tax obligations, you risk missing required registrations or filings, which can lead to penalties or interest.

  • Loss of tracking history: Disregarded jurisdictions are excluded from your “Registrations to Finish” count and exposure tracking.

For example, if you disregard Hungary after meeting physical presence Nexus, and later also meet economic Nexus there, the system will not alert you. You would remain unregistered unless manually reinstated.

Example Risk

If you disregard a jurisdiction after meeting Physical Presence Nexus, and later also meet Economic Nexus there, the system will not alert you to the new requirement.

Restoring a Disregarded Jurisdiction

If you decide you need to monitor a disregarded jurisdiction again, please contact Support. Our team can help restore the jurisdiction to active monitoring so you can receive alerts and take any required registration actions.

Reminder

Only disregard a jurisdiction if you are certain you no longer want or need to monitor your exposure there. When in doubt, contact our support team to review your Nexus exposure before taking this action.
