Free plan: monitor your exposure at no cost

The Free plan lets you see where you stand before you spend anything. It includes:

  • Global exposure (nexus) monitoring for both physical and economic nexus

  • Exposure and historical liability auditing

  • Automated risk assessment and nexus threshold alerts the moment you cross a threshold

  • AI-powered product categorization

  • Address validation and enrichment

  • Kin, your in-app AI sales tax assistant, grounded in your own data

  • CSV transaction imports

  • No-code integrations such as Shopify, Stripe, Chargebee, and BigCommerce

Starter plan: pay per action (filing, registration, etc.)

Starter includes everything in Free, plus the compliance work itself. Each filing or registration is $75, and you are only billed for the actions you actually use. Starter adds:

  • Automated registrations, filings, and remittance for US sales tax

  • Auto-file, auto-register, and deregistration where supported

  • Refunds and amendments

  • Basic exemption certificate management

  • Virtual mailbox for state notices

  • Faster data sync across your connected platforms

  • Onboarding assistance

  • 24/7 live chat support with same-day human responses

Premium plan: custom pricing for more complex operations

Premium plans are custom, built around your business volume and needs, with flat-rate pricing and volume-based discounts. Our team sets it up with you directly. Premium includes everything in Starter, plus:

  • Multi-country compliance across the US, Canada, EU, UK, and 100+ countries

  • Real-time tax calculation on invoices through premium connectors such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, and Microsoft Dynamics 365

  • Back filing with Voluntary Disclosure Agreement (VDA) options

  • Advanced exemption certificate management, including bulk upload, secure certificate requests, and expiration notifications

  • Ready-made reports and custom analytics

  • API, SDK, and SSO access

  • Dedicated onboarding and account teams with SLA-backed premium support

💡 IMPORTANT TIP: If you have met nexus in more than 10 states, Premium is usually the better fit. Flat-rate pricing with volume discounts tends to cost less than per-action billing at that scale, and you gain the automation built for multi-state filing.

Premium pricing

Premium is custom pricing, scoped to your business and set when your contract is signed. This single contract covers everything included in Premium, such as API access, multi-country compliance, and volume-based filing, as one plan rather than separate line items.

How billing works on each plan

Plan

How you are billed

When you are billed

Free

Not billed. No credit card is required.

Never

Starter

Per action. Each filing or registration counts as one billable event.

After the billing period ends. Actions completed this period appear on your next invoice.

Premium

A flat monthly subscription based on your custom plan.

In advance, at the start of each billing cycle.

Why your Starter invoice can show $0.00: Filings, registrations, and other billable actions are charged after the period they were completed in. If your latest invoice shows $0.00, the actions you recently completed are simply queued for the upcoming billing cycle rather than the current one.

Any plan or pricing change is reflected automatically in your subscription. You can confirm your current plan and charges anytime under Configuration > Billing Details. Note that billing information is visible to Admins and Owners only; see Understanding User Roles in Kintsugi.

How You Can Pay

Kintsugi accepts credit and debit cards for subscription payments on Starter and Premium. The Free plan does not require any payment method.

ACH bank transfer is also available for customers paying from a U.S. bank account. To set up or switch to ACH, contact Support and we will send you a secure link to enter your banking details.

These payment details are used for your Kintsugi subscription only. They are separate from the bank details used to remit sales tax to state authorities, which you enter under Configuration > Bank Details. For more on that, see Setting Up Sales Tax Payment for Filings and Registration.

Ready to Upgrade?

  • Free to Starter: Self-serve. Go to Configuration > Billing Details, select Upgrade on the Current Subscription Plan card, and complete checkout inside the app. The change takes effect immediately.

  • Moving to Premium: Select Talk to Sales on the Premium card in the same window, or use the Talk to sales option on the pricing page. Our team follows up to build a plan around your volume and the countries you sell into.

For full step-by-step instructions, including what your invoice looks like after a switch, see How to View and Change Your Kintsugi Subscription Plan.
