How to View and Change Your Kintsugi Subscription Plan

Understand your Kintsugi billing and subscription. See your plan overview, pricing, payment method, and billing history, and learn how to upgrade or switch.
Updated 19 days ago

Your subscription plan controls which Kintsugi features you can use and how you are billed. This guide shows you where to find your current plan, how to move to a different one, and what to expect on your invoice after you switch.

Before you start

Plan changes are available to Admins and Owners. If you do not see the Configuration tab, your role is set to Member. Ask an Admin or Owner on your account to make the change, or to update your role. See Understanding User Roles in Kintsugi.

See your current plan

  1. Log in to Kintsugi.

Under Plan Overview, the Current Subscription Plan card shows the plan you are on today. The Subscription Items card next to it breaks down what you are being billed for, including your filing and registration counts for the current period.

Which plans you can switch to yourself

Some changes are self-serve and take effect right away. Others are set up with our team, because the pricing is built around your business.

Premium is custom priced rather than a fixed package, which is why it is set up with a person rather than a checkout page.

Upgrade from Free to Starter

  1. Go to Configuration > Billing Details.

  2. On the Current Subscription Plan card, select Upgrade.

  3. In the Choose your Plan window, select Upgrade on the Starter card.

  4. Complete the checkout that opens inside the app. Enter your payment details and confirm.

Your plan updates as soon as the payment goes through, and the Current Subscription Plan card reflects the change. You are then asked whether you want to turn on Auto File and Auto Register. You can accept now or set them up later under Configuration > Settings.

Tip: You can also start this from any locked feature. Selecting a paid feature such as Kintsugi Mail, or a paid action such as approving a filing, opens the same plan window without losing your place.

Move to Premium

  1. Go to Configuration > Billing Details.

  2. On the Current Subscription Plan card, select Upgrade.

  3. Select Talk to Sales on the Premium card.

  4. Confirm your request. Our team receives it and follows up to build a plan around your volume and the countries you sell into.

Premium adds capabilities that are not part of Free or Starter, including API access, exemption certificate management, custom analytics, Voluntary Disclosure Agreements, and multi-country coverage.

What changes on your invoice after you switch

Starter and Premium are billed on different models, so it helps to know what to expect.

Plan

How you are billed

When you are billed

Starter

Based on the actions you use, such as filings and registrations

After the period ends, on the 4th of the following month

Premium

A flat monthly subscription

In advance, at the start of the billing period

Switching mid-month is prorated

If you change plans partway through a month, you are charged only for the portion of the month you spend on each plan. Nothing is double charged.

Seeing two charges in the month you switch is normal

When you move from Starter to Premium mid-month, two separate things are billed:

  • A prorated Premium charge, covering the rest of the current month from your switch date. This is billed in advance, so it appears right away.

  • Your remaining Starter usage from before the switch. This follows the usual Starter schedule and lands on the following month's invoice.

These cover two different periods. They are not a duplicate charge.

Why a new Starter invoice can show 0.00

Filings and registrations are billed after the period they were completed in. If you have just upgraded and completed your first actions, your current invoice may show 0.00 while those actions are counted toward the next cycle.

Confirm the change went through

Scroll to Billing History on the same page. Your invoices are listed with the plan each one was billed under, so you can see exactly when the new plan took effect.

Starter invoices also include a note listing the specific actions billed on that invoice, grouped by type and jurisdiction, so you can match each charge to the work behind it. To open or download a copy, select the three dots at the end of an invoice row. Full steps are in View and Download Your Kintsugi Invoices.

FAQs

Q: Will I lose my data if I move to a different plan?
A: No. Your transactions, nexus history, and past filings stay on your account. Changing plans changes which features you can use going forward.

Q: What happens to a filing that is already in progress?
A: Work already underway continues. A filing is only ever billed once, even if its status changes while our team reviews it. See Understanding Filing Statuses and Billing in Kintsugi.

Q: Can I downgrade myself?
A: Downgrades are handled with our team. Reducing your plan can affect filings that are already scheduled and registrations you hold in a state, so we confirm those are settled first.

Q: I upgraded but a feature is still locked.
A: Refresh the page first. If it is still locked, check the Current Subscription Plan card to confirm the new plan is showing. Some capabilities, such as API keys, require Premium rather than Starter.

Q: My payment did not go through.
A: Update your card under Configuration > Billing Details > Payment Method, update it, and try again. See How to Update Your Credit Card in Kintsugi. If you pay by bank transfer (ACH), contact Support and we will help you sort it out.
